BAND OF THE DAY: IF THESE TREES COULD TALK

There's really not much to say that hasn't already been said about this incredible band. If These Trees Could Talk are a quasi-spiritual experience live and on record their music has a meditative quality while not falling into the trap of most bands that get the post-rock tag. The thing that keeps them from being your generic next-door post-rock band is that they can lay down a groove just as easily as take off towards Jupiter. Also, the fact that they aren't afraid to play a power chord every now and then, rather than just letting delay pedals do all the work and noodling around for 15 minutes. They distill their music down into something that is both keeping with post rock's march to destroy standard rock conventions while also being accessible. They're playing with Pelican in Belgium this year.  It's ok, we were jealous too.

BAND OF THE DAY: ENABLER

Crushing down from Milwaukee Wisconsin, Enabler has a simple ethos when it comes to music: "The world is fucked and this is the soundtrack to its demise."  No disagreement here.  The best word to describe this band is explosive, and that's exactly what their live show does.  Merging crust, sludge, and thrash together seamlessly, Enabler throws the gauntlet down.

BAND OF THE DAY: K.D.C.

Hailing from Buffalo, NY by way of Puerto Rico, K.D.C. are a heavy hardcore band that can rage. Moving increasingly towards darker more riff-heavy songs, it seems that the northernmost edge of the Rust Belt has provided the band with plenty of bleak inspiration. K.D.C is one of the most physically aggressive live bands in the region and backs it up with tight musicianship in the traditions of bands like 108 and Inside Out.

BAND OF THE DAY: HEAVING MASS

Raging out of Chicago, Heaving Mass began in 2009 with members of both American Heritage and Blood of the Tyrant. Equal parts crushing, progressive, and rooted in a DIY aesthetic, the band has crossed the Midwest region several times.  Rather than trying to ape their already-established contemporaries, the band has instead chosen to try and merge several distinct styles together.  They've shared stages with some of the most forward thinking artists in the underground, including Yakuza and Black Skies.
